A few weeks ago, I got the chance to sit down with one of my favorite writers and pick her brain.  I’ve been following Icess Fernandez Rojas for a few years via her blog, retweeting her twitter jewels for quite someone time. Icess is a fierce Afrolatina whose journalistic work has been featured in the Guardian and The Huffington Post Latino Voices and All  Digitocracy. When I found that she was in my city, I had to set up a meeting.  To my surprise, she agreed to spend a portion of her Saturday with me chatting about her career.

I learned so much from her journey but the most important piece of wisdom she shared was that I should ALWAYS BE WRITING.  Now, that the Stories of Us has taken off it’s been a bit easy to get complacent, but in this game you don’t have time to be complacent.  That day I started working on more blog posts, plays and other works.   Apparently, I need to work on submitting to VONA because it is “life-changing”.

I just want to give thanks for Icess’s guidance that Saturday.  And to all my readers: Connect with those who are doing what you love!
